Lecture by Renowned Italian
Geneticist
Giuseppe Sermonti
Author of "Why Is a Fly Not a Horse?"
May 2, 2005
Join
us as we welcome Dr. Sermonti to Seattle for a lecture to be held on Monday,
May 2nd from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at Discovery Institute, located in the
Melbourne Tower Building, 1511 Third Avenue, Suite 808 in downtown Seattle.
The first 50 attendees will receive a special limited edition,
pre-publication copy of the book. Cost of the event is $10 and includes a
selection of regional wines and cheese. Seating is limited, so
pre-registration is encouraged. To register, please contact Rachel Krauskopf
by email or by calling (206)
292-0401 ext. 153.
Discovery Institute is honored to announce the forthcoming
publication of Why Is a Fly Not a Horse?
In his book "Why Is a Fly Not a Horse?", Dr.
Sermonti boldly shatters the myth that all critics of Darwinian evolution
are American religious fundamentalists. His groundbreaking book, loaded with
scientific facts that aren't taught in standard biology classes, is full of
history and poetry and asks many of the right questions - in a style that is
both entertaining and inspiring. Dr. Sermonti is a retired Professor of
Genetics at the University of Perugia who discovered genetic recombination
in antibiotic-producing Penicillium and Streptomyces and was Vice President
at XIV International Congress of Genetics (Moscow, 1980). He is Chief Editor
of Rivista di Biologia/Biology Forum, one of the oldest
still-published biology journals in the world.
The book is a valuable contribution to the critical treatment of some of the
phenomena of evolution. Sermonti puts together several phenomena which have
been dispersed in the literature. It could be said that this is a literary
essay written by a biologist." Dr. A. Lima-de-Faria Professor Emeritus of
Molecular Cytogenetics University of Lund, Sweden
In this scholarly written book, the current ideas on evolution are
critically studied in a broad context. The fallacious character of the
current neo-Darwinian dogmatisim is clearly demonstrated. The attentive
reader of the book will be fascinated from beginning to end." Dr. Leendert
Van Der Hammen, Founder-Member of the Osaka Group for the Study of Dynamic
Structures, author of "Unfoldment and Manifestation. Seven Essay on
Evolution and Classification" (The Hague, 1988)
Why Is a Fly Not a Horse? also bears an Italian title,
Dimenticare Darwin, which means "Forget Darwin," and its prologue bears the
title "Evolution is dead!"

After more than
15 years as volunteer camp founder and director,
Jan Mansell has decided to “retire”. John Hungerford who has been
volunteer assistant director for 5 years and a camp teacher for
15 years, is now director.
Camp Adams is located in deep forest one hour south of Portland,
near the foothills of Mt. Hood. It is a wonderful facility for
children and adults with many miles of hiking trails, creeks,
open meadows, and comfortable modern facilities. The heated
cabins have large central meeting rooms, bathrooms with showers
and kitchens. A full size gym and a large modern dining facility
are just a short walk away.
This camp is committed to teaching students about the wonders of
natural things and events, in the context of a “hands-on” outdoor
classroom. With a Biblical perspective and an emphasis on creation,
campers learn about science in fun, innovative ways.
The campers will develop a thoughtful appreciation for and a
knowledge of the world that God created for our benefit. They will
learn more about God’s handiwork and gain a proper understanding
of the amazing interdependence of life in our universe.
We provide a positive group living experience with opportunities to
meet new Christian friends who also homeschool. Individuals will
develop sound health habits and attitudes by providing and
maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment in all areas
of the camp.
SCIENCE AREAS ( taught from a creation science standpoint)
Geology, Astronomy, River & Stream Life, Macroinvertebrates
Ornithology, Animal Kingdom, Forestry, Dinosaurs, and more...
RECREATION
Archery, Crafts, Hiking Trails
Large gym for basketball & volleyball
Large field for soccer & nature games
Fun skits during evening campfire
Science Camp is non-denominational and is for Christians who believe in
creation, love science and enjoy the outdoors.
This camp is for HOMESCHOOLERS.
A limited number of children who previously homeschooled may also attend
this camp, pending approval by the camp director.
As always, PARENTS are encouraged to attend as cabin counselors or
teachers in areas of expertise.
Non-participating younger children and spouses of counselors may stay in
nearby facilities at the same camp and join us for some activities and
meals if desired. The whole family can enjoy this week!
A $50 deposit will hold a place at camp. Balance is due by May 30.
Registration forms and more detailed information will be sent
when the deposit is received. Send deposits or forward questions to:

A Grander View of Life
June 15-17, 2005
New St. Andrews College in
Moscow, Idaho
In the closing paragraph of Origin, Darwin declared, "There is grandeur in
this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into
a few forms or into one." In contrast to Darwin's materialistic outlook,
the apostle John concludes his first epistle with these words, "...God has given
us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life;
he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life" (1 John 5:11-12,
NASB). So we see that to have true life and to develop a proper view of life, we
must first have faith in Christ. We must recognize Jesus as the Author
and Finisher, the Alpha and Omega, the Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer. By
acknowledging life as the creation and revelation of a
loving God, ours is "A Grander View of Life." Certainly far grander than
Darwin's.
"A Grander View of Life" will differ from previous BSG conferences in
that we are reducing the number of plenaries and increasing the number and
length of submitted research talks. Confirmed plenary speakers include Dr.
Steve Boyd of Master's College and our keynote speaker Dr. Leonard Brand of Loma
Linda University. In addition, we have slots available for fourteen
25-minute research talks, and we look forward to receiving your submissions.
Abstracts are due February 28, 2005.
Registrations postmarked by April 30, 2005 will receive a discounted
rate of only $100 ($50 for students), which includes meals.
