Variable Genes
Many genes are highly variable or change regularly from one generation to the next.
- Frequently involved with inter-species contacts.
- Have distinct variable and invariable regions.
- More variable than neutral regions between genes.
- Antagonists of variable proteins are also variable.
However, most genes remain constant.
- Housekeeping Genes are conserved between vastly unrelated organisms. (Metabolism, Gene Expression)
