Presenting: The Heavens Declare the Glory of God - Ps 93:1

EDUCATION: John N. Johnson, has a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. He has retired from the Boeing Company where he was a mathematician developing computer algorithms for navigation, guidance and control for 31 years. He has also taught academic classes for over 20 years in creation science and Biblical archaeology, and has defended creation science in five college debates with evolutionist faculty as well as radio debates. He is the President of the Creation Association of Puget Sound.  John’s talk is illustrated with photos of planets, stars and galaxies, and animals, from NASA and other sources, using devotional scriptures. It was done for VBS, so should be interesting for all ages.

1. God’s Excellence & Glory in the Heavens. Rom. 1:20 - His eternal power and divine nature are clearly seen through what has been made, Ps. 8:1-7 - How majestic is God’s name, praise from Children, consider the moon, stars, Psalms 104:19 - moon marks the seasons, sun knows when to go down, Psalm 104:6 – what is man? Little lower than angels, crowned with honor, dominion over earth, Psalms 8:8 - The birds of air and fish of sea, Ps. 8:9 - Lord’s majestic name.

2. God is talking to us. Ps. 19:1 - Heavens declare glory of God, pour forth speech, knowledge, no place where they are not heard.  Ps.19:4 - His voice to ends of the world, Ps 19:6 - Sun’s circuit. Ps, 19:7 - Law of Lord is perfect and trustworthy, Ps. 19:8 – His precepts are trustworthy, commands radiant. Job 38:31 - Pleiades star cluster is firmly bound by gravity’s “chains” whereas Orion’s constellation (far apart) is only loosely bound by gravity’s “cords. Ps. 19:9 Fear of the Lord is pure, His ordinances are sure and righteous. Show Apollo 15 Moon landing with Jim Irwin, quoted Ps. 121:1 – I lift my eyes to the hills where does my help come from – the Lord (and Houston too!). Ps. 89:5 – Heavens will praise His wonders, Psalm 50:6, 97:6 – Heavens declare His righteousness. Prov. 8:1 - When He established the heavens, Wisdom was there.

3. God’s Care for us. Is. 40:21-22. God enthroned above (spherical) circle of earth, stretches out the Heavens, Is. 40:26 Knows stars by name, (so He knows your name), not one is missing. Show galaxies, constellations, planets, dwarf planet Pluto & three moons - Chiron, Nix, Hydra, newly discovered dwarf planet Eris & moon Dysnomia, Big Dipper, finding North Star Polaris. Is. 40:27 - Why say my way is hidden and my cause disregarded by God? Show Bar-trailed godwit’s migration flight. Is. 40:28 - God will not grow weary or tired. Is. 40:29 – God gives strength to the weak. Is. 40:30-31 youths grow weary. Is. 40:31 - Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, soar like eagles.

4. The New Heaven: 2 Peter 3:10 - the Earth will be burned up (show our sun as a red giant). Rev. 21:1 - The New heaven & New earth, Rev. 21:2 - Holy City, Rev. 21:4 – He will wipe every tear, Gospel: Rom. 3:23 - All have sinned, Rom. 6:23 - wages of sin is death, gift of God is eternal life in Jesus  Rom. 5:8 while we were sinners Christ died for us;.Rom.10:9: if you confess Jesus as Lord and believe (trust) in your heart that God raised Him form the dead you will be saved. The 12 Foundation stones, gates of pearls, streets of gold.  Rev. 21:23 - No need of sun, the Lamb (Jesus) is the Light.
