Due
to it being prized as the coveted word of God, the Bible has been better
preserved, and translated into more languages than any other book in
history. Original manuscripts can be found in the oldest written languages
on earth, and it also contains the longest running genealogical sequence
known to exist, spanning approximately 4000 years. There is simply no
other book in existence that offers a better chronological record of the early
history of earth. |

The
Bible states in Genesis
1 that the earth with all its
inhabitants was created by God in
6 days. Many people argue that the
creation days should not be taken literally, but God created time and language,
and expressed the creation in terms we could correlate
to our definitions of time. The
Biblical account is very specific about the length of time
involved with each episode of the creation.
If this description is temporally
accurate
then calculating the age of the earth and the universe is relatively easy.
The Bible contains a genealogical
record from Adam to Jesus, and our existing calendar is associated with the life of Jesus (BC/AD).
The Bible also specifies the age
of each man in this lineage at the time he had his first son.
Therefore, the age of our world can be
easily calculated by adding these years together.
According to this Biblical chronology the earth is almost exactly 6000
years old, and approximately 4500
years ago the global flood completely destroyed all terrestrial life except those saved by God through his instructions
to Noah.

Did God create the earth in just a few days?
The very nature of our world
offers an
important piece of scientific evidence that substantiates the simultaneous creation of
many kinds of plants and animals as
described in the Bible. We live in an ecosystem where the existence of
life requires the concurrent presence of many kinds of organisms such as
microbes, plants, insects, and animals. These organisms comprise the food
chain (producers > consumers > decomposers). If even one of these groups
were to go extinct, life as we know it might very well cease to exist.
This interdependence verifies what the Bible says: God created many "kinds" of plants and animals at the same relative point in
time.
