The heavens are the only portion of the creation credited for proclaiming God's righteousness. Because the creation of our universe was a supernatural act, we may never understand factors such as the delivery of light from distances, which seem to indicate a very old universe. Physicists say that light from far off galaxies must have traveled through space for billions of years to reach us, and events such as supernovas occurred before life ever existed on Earth. However, the Biblical chronology dates the universe as equal to that of the Earth or just over 6000 years old. Although these astrophysical measurements might be accurate we must understand that God created the universe in a manner that simply defies naturalistic explanation. The Bible says the universe was stretched out, which may be consistent with observations, such as [[red shift]], that indicate expansion. 2 Peter 3:5 says that "''by the word of God heavens existed long ago''", and Isaiah 42:5 says the Lord "''stretched out the heavens''". It has also become apparent that the speed of light is not as constant as originally thought. We have also recognized that gravity can affect the passage of time. Dr. Russell Humphreys' white hole cosmology shows that, given the right starting conditions, the Earth could have been significantly time-dilated relative to the rest of the universe, thus allowing star light from deep space to reach Earth. It should also be noted that the Earth was likewise created with the appearance of age in defiance of a naturalistic explanation. On the very day life was formed these organisms would had the appearance of great age. For them to exist biochemical reactions must have occurred many years before the Earth ever existed. Although we may wish to explain how these things could exist, in some cases the supernatural works of God may simply be beyond our understanding.
